You Wanna See a Big Mess…I Got One

Hey guys, and how are you? We sure hope all is well with each and every one of you. Also, let me quickly say once more how much I appreciate all your kind words, thoughts, and prayers in my regard. Deb will be sorely missed, but she lives on…in my heart!

Anyway…

Our garden or what’s left from our garden… ain’t much! It was thrown away as you all know, but that’s fixing to change. I shot a video of it this morning and once I took a look at it I was like, “MAN, it’s going to be awhile before you can relax again!” LOL!

I bet ole Deb’s crackin up…dern her time!

Cheyenne’s Showing Me the Ropes

Hello…how are you guys? We hope all are well, and life is treating everyone just fine. To all our good friends, thank you all once more. You guys have been a great help to me. I appreciate your kindness.

Hot…good night a livin, it has been really hot and humid down here. Tryin to do a little work around here is like working in a sauna. All you have to do is basically just walk around the yard and the sweat is just pourin off of you.

By the time I get up to the shower in the evenin I smell bout like an ole boar hog, and my clothes are just drenched. It’s bad when Cheyenne walks over to you to get petted and loved on, stops, catches a good whiff, then decides she really doesn’t need any attention right at the moment.

I come up to the porch in the afternoon now and she waits on me with one paw on a bar of soap, and a dern towel in her mouth! Once I get almost on the porch she drops the towel over the soap and takes off to the other side. Man’s best friend…HA!

Tropical Storm…Who Else??

Good morning to you guys, how are ya? I sure hope everyone is well and looking forward to a very productive and pleasurable work week!

As you guys know, we’ve been getting rain, rain, and more rain coming off the storm in the northwest gulf.

I dumped 5 inches out of the rain gauge last night, so I really don’t know how much we’d had. Then this morning I dumped another inch and a half. I haven’t checked it this afternoon but I’d be shocked if we haven’t had another inch and a half as well.

This could keep up for another few days, but hopefully it’ll start moving out soon. We’ve not had any strong winds here, possibly gusts of up to 25 mph, but nothing bad at all. Like many others along the eastern seaboard or the gulf coast areas, once one of these storms starts heading in our general direction…we keep our eyes peeled!

The name of this particular storm?

Trying To Turn the Page

Hello guys. I sure hope everyone is doing just fine. I’m doing pretty well. Boy it’s tough though. Ole Deb and I were kinda joined at the hip the last 10 years or so, and to be honest…this is quite an adjustment.

I have to state that Deb is in a much better place no doubt, and in my heart, for this, I’m ecstatic. She deserves any and all good that comes her way. She was quite a lady, and looking back now I was so blessed she came into my life.

I knew this already, but since her absence, I truly understand how blessed I actually was.

Fortunately for me, God instilled in me a great sense of humor. Through this, I’ve been able to laugh or throw off many of the challenges in my own life. This is still the case. It is still true in this latest challenge…life without my Deb will probably be the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced.

But…

Keep a Smile on Your Face…and One in Your Heart

Hello guys.

Debbie, known to all you as Deb, passed away Thursday June 14th shortly after noon at 12:15. She will be laid to rest on the morning of Tuesday June 19th.

As I sit here this today, so many things are going through my mind. Maybe some of them will make sense.

First, I know Deb’s at peace. She was so blessed from the point of knowing our Lord and Savior, and I know without a doubt she’s at home. He has smiled on her for quite some time now. For this…I’m ecstatic for her, although my heart breaks that she’ll not be with me again in this life.

I can’t count the times I’ve been sitting in our swing and expect, even trying to WILL her, to come through our front door to sit beside me once again. These times are past, but only for a short period. I will be with her again one day and that fact helps in my dealing with her loss.

She does still sit beside me, she still walks with me, she still sleeps with me, she still comforts me, even holds me. Why? Because she told me she would.

She asked me just last week if I’d be alright if she had to go. I told her yes, although I’d have a huge hole in my heart. She looked me straight in the eye and said, “No you won’t, because I’ll be there to fill it for you.”

Deb’s biggest assets, right behind the love she had for me and her family was her courage and toughness. The words, no, or can’t, were not even in her vocabulary. You might could knock her down, BUT…you couldn’t keep her down. She always got up, most times with her feathers ruffled.

Take it from a man that knows, once you did ruffle those little feathers of hers, it was all over but the crying!

After I’d aggravate her to the point she’d “John McEnroe” me down the porch, she was just like the comedian Sinbad’s Mamma.

She’d come down to where I’d finally “landed,” dust me off, help me up and go, “Dub, why’d you push me to such a point I couldn’t help myself. You know I didn’t want to slap you! C’mon, let’s go find…your other eye!”

Not once since her diagnosis with Stage 4 breast cancer, April 1, 2011, did she complain, or ask why. Never. She met it head-on, no different than any other challenge in her life.

She stepped outside of the medical spectrum, decided on alternative treatments, and never looked back…not once.

The quality of life we shared for those 14 or so months was second to none, and she never doubted she had made the right decision. It was the best time of our entire lives together. Bar none.

The constant statement that I’ve heard time and time again from our friends and family is simply, “Debbie, we literally had forgotten…you were even sick.”

Looking back now, I am guilty of the same thing.

What an inspiration she has been for so many, and first and foremost to me. She was so much tougher than I could ever possibly have been in such a situation. I mean that, she was incredible…

Our website was such a blessing for her and I both. She loved all you guys and your support for her was overwhelming to us. You touched our hearts…and souls. Thank you.

So, I’d like to take the opportunity to let her say goodbye for now. When we see Deb again it will be in a much better place.

We received an e-card from a good friend, Barbara L. in N.C. It stated…

I have this feeling there is one more star up in the sky tonight

And even though it’s far away

Its brightness and warmth still reach us here

To make the night a little less dark…

Thank you so much Barbara. Because of that card, I’ll always look into the night sky with an entirely different perspective.

Looking back, I want you all to know that when she drew her last breath she had indeed left a lasting impression on my heart and soul. This was simply to leave…a smile on my face, and one in my heart.

God Bless you and yours.

Deb’s Doing Okay

**This post was done last Saturday. I’m sorry but Wild Blue, our internet service is updating…it’ll probably be this Wed. before our new internet is active. Right now I have it, then I don’t. There’s only a small window that allows me to get on the internet. It’s driving me crazy, actually this is the first time we’ve had internet since about Wed. or Thurs. of last week.

The good news is that we’ll go from 1-1/2 megs (I guess that’s what you call it, to 12 megs. Our son Mark says that’s more than he has. We live out in the woods and are on a satellite system. Thanks you all for your patience!

Gonna Take a Week or so Off

Hey guys, how are you?

Deb tore some ligaments in her upper chest on the right side earlier in the week. She’s doing fine, just very, very sore. It hurts to breathe, hurts to move, in other words, she’s just kinda miserable right now. I know she’s a little better than she was Tuesday.

I asked her to throw a few squash to the cows, and don’t ask me why I didn’t do it?? I was busy and asked, then like a dummy, she went on and did it instead of saying, “No, I’d rather not.”

As soon as I came back up to the house I could obviously see she was in great pain, but at first she refused to go to the hospital. Well, about 30 minutes later she was happy to go. I tell you guys, there are times I can be a complete idiot.

Anyway, she’s doing better, but at the moment I’m having to do most everything. Time was of short supply prior to her injury, but now it’s really scarce. I’m cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, keeping us in juice, plus the garden is coming in too. This on top of the rest of my workday.

I’m doing fine with this too, but really busy, and kinda down on myself for even asking her to do that.

I also have to say this…I really, really, am coming to the realization that our wives definitely EARN their keep! Good night, I swear I don’t know how she manages her time with all her alternatives she does, then balances out the rest of the day with her normal, day to day routine??? THEN, helps me in the greenhouse??

To all my menfolk buddies out there…if you have a good wife, I can tell you that you’re not huggin them enough! Take a couple minutes out of your day and give them gals a big hug…they deserve it!

Well, we haven’t made any pickles from our squash or cucumbers simply because there’s just no time. We’ve given most all of them away, but…the neighbors are eating pretty good! LOL!

For Deb, this is just a bump in the road that she’ll over, but honestly I don’t want her doing anything until this heals up. Rest is what she needs, and I’m seeing she gets plenty of that.

She tells me she feels fine, and now she looks fine again…her color and all. You could tell though that she was in excruciating pain though, and Deb just doesn’t show that very much at all. I didn’t realize the extent of her injury, but the Doc says she literally tore meat away from her ribcage?? OUCH!

She continues with her alternatives and she’s still drinking her juice each morning, and is eating good. I wonder if she’s eating so good cause I’m doing all the cookin and cleanin?? Dern if it might taste better if you ain’t got to jack with it, huh?

I do want to say thank you to all you guys out there. You’ve all been so much help to us both with your prayers and concern for her! You honestly have made a BIG, BIG difference in her fight. I honestly can’t express in words the appreciation I have for all your support.

I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again…you guys have been great!

I’ll keep you guys informed of her progress, and may drop a line or two in a post. I just can’t say for sure that I can keep up with it like we were, but as quick as she’s up on her feet good again…I’ll be back!

God Bless you all, and like ole Deb says, “Keep a smile on your face, and one in your heart!”

Talk to you guys soon!

Mesquite Chicken, Chicken Breast Casserole, Chicken Pot Pie, Chicken Dressing Casserole, and a Laugh From Edith

Hey guys! How is everyone today? We had more rain today…over 2 inches the last two days. Things are looking up!

Today we’re gonna talk chicken here in Miz Judi’s Kitchen.

Course when our youngest son Red’s talking chicken, he’s talking about the time I wouldn’t get on Space Mountain. Or, maybe the time I wouldn’t ride the Ferris wheel at the fair with hm. Or, maybe what I become when I’m startled by of all things…a dern spider! Honestly I can’t stand them!

But since Red’s not here, we’re talking about the real chicken…chicken!

In today’s economy, and with food prices continuing to go up in cost, chicken is an option, but the last couple times Deb and I have been to the grocery store, chicken is going out of sight as well.
Deb and I feel that for all-round meals with meat, hamburger is probably our number 1 choice. First off it’s so versatile with the number of different meals you can set a table with.

Secondly there is absolutely no waste, whether it be bone or fat, and lastly we like it any number of ways, and it’s so easy to food saver and freeze, taking up little room in your freezer. But, hamburger too is going out of sight!

Deb paid $4.99 a pound a couple weeks back, and I saw it on sale for $3.99 a pound yesterday. Hamburger for $3.99 a pound…on sale??

Chicken would probably be our second choice, but we find pork to our liking as well. Okay, okay, maybe all this isn’t so much to Deb’s liking, BUT, personally…I like them all! LOL!

“Holding Your Hand From Afar”

Well, good morning once again. We hope all are doing well, and guess what? We had over an inch of rain yesterday afternoon!! YES….

I have to tell you guys what a pleasure doing this site has been. Yeah, there are times it seems as if there just aren’t enough hours in the day in regards to all the irons Deb and I have in the fire, but that’s part of life.

I know without a doubt that what I have to say suffers from time to time on account of other things going on, but I have to tell you…all the good we’ve received by doing this, far, far outweighs any bad. You guys have been just great!

When I let out about Deb’s cancer, I was stunned by the goodness you guys put out there for us. Your thoughts, concerns and prayers, literally overwhelmed us! On top of this, I know, in my heart, that your kindness has helped Deb immensely in her fight, and is one of the reasons she’s done so well! Thank you all again!

Without a doubt, the main reason we keep on with our site…is the ability to converse and share with so many wonderful people. The sharing of ideas, recipes, and even laughter. But far more than anything else is the ability to share prayers in each of our regard!

Sadly yesterday, we’ve found out that one of our very good, well actually, a very dear friend is once more faced with adversity from this terrible disease. I won’t use their names as I’m not sure yet if they’d feel it appropriate at the moment.

Most that have read our column for any length of time will know immediately who she is, but once more, I’ll keep it under hat for now. If she feels okay with it, I’m sure she’ll let you know, but I just would like you to say a prayer in their regard.

God too knows who I’m speaking of, and he will know where these prayers are directed!

The reason I’m letting out this news is that throughout Deb’s fight, she has been standing beside Deb since day one, and as she likes to say, “Holding Deb’s hand from afar.”

Because of this, and the type of person this lady is, I humbly ask you guys for prayers on her behalf as well. She has been through a long struggle in her own right with this disease, for years and years, but several months back was given an all clear!

Deb and I were ecstatic over such great, and deserved good fortune! It couldn’t have happened to a better person! Yet, we just found out that her husband was just diagnosed with cancer as well, and as far as we know at the moment, his prognosis is not good.

So once more, say a special prayer for this family. They have been through adversity before, and now it just tears our hearts out to find that once more, they are faced with this disease again.

I want her to know this morning just how much she’s meant to us since we’ve been blessed by her reaching out to us, and her literally becoming a part of our family, just as we feel we’re a part of her own.

Her thoughts, her laughter, her advice, concern and prayers were, and still are such a blessing, and this morning Deb and I both feel, not only feel, but KNOW, prayers are so helpful!

So to our friend, please know that this is but one way we feel we might could help you guys out…through prayer. Prayers from all our other friends out there strung together to help you guys through a tough, tough time.

Miracles happen daily. Keep the faith, look up, and know in your heart that you are loved by so many! God Bless you and yours! We love ya’ll, and are only a phone call away.

“Holding your hands from afar…”

Mother’s Day at “Ruthie’s, and Her Cook Shed

Good morning! We hope this finds all in good spirits and good health as well! Deb and I are fine, and it looks like we MIGHT get a shower, but this time of year it may be only wishful thinking. Come June though, we’re into our rainy season.

As I said in our previous post, Deb and I hope you guys had a great Mother’s Day. Boy we sure did! It was at my Mom and Dad’s, and all of our grandchildren were there. That doesn’t happen too often anymore, so when it does we’re very pleased.

We’ve been very fortunate in regards to our children and grandchildren. None really ever got into any type of trouble, and all are in great health. We are blessed in their regard!

I’ll show a video of some of our family while at Mother’s Day. We’re just a normal family, most of the time, but I guess in truth, if there are any “abnormal ones,” it’s probably me! LOL! Or, Deb considers it this way most times!
