Just a Few Tidbits This Morning

Good morning and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession. We hope all are well, and wherever you’re at if spring hasn’t sprung for you yet, we hope it’s just right around the corner for you! It was 94 degrees here today.

Soda Apple: Today if you guys don’t mind, I’d like to talk about the soda apple. In regards to ranchers, and citrus growers, here in the State of Florida, but mainly the cattle ranchers, we have a problem with this plant, and have had for many, many years now.

These plants I remember distinctly while working on the ranch. They’ve been in Florida about 20 years now, and were first discovered in Florida in Glades County. If you’re involved in the cattle industry here in Florida, you know the soda apple, or have known the soda apple first hand.

Dub and his “gift of the gab”

I would like to welcome you all back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen . I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy

I do hope everyone is doing good today! As for me I am doing fine. I was hoping to get my pet scan report back today but I guess it will be tomorrow, and possibly even Thursday. I’m a little nervous, but I am feeling pretty good about it.

This is mainly because I know that with all the prayers everyone has been sending up for me and my family, that it will be just fine.

Spam Casserole and Flautas

I don’t know of anyone who has put up some groceries for “a rainy day,” who hasn’t put up some Spam. Some people just don’t like it, and I wonder if most “who don’t like it,” have ever tasted it?

Deb and I both like it, whether it be on a sandwich, uncooked with some Miracle Whip, lettuce, tomato, and a piece of cheese, or even fried up with some grits and eggs, a couple sliced tomatoes and eaten as a quick supper one night.

Shoot, at the camp, or even at home for lunch, eaten with saltine crackers and maybe some pork and beans on the side…it’s good!

Fusarium Wilt in My Tomatoes?

Good morning my friends. How is everyone this morning? We hope all are fine and ready to get started this morning.

I’ve got a problem, and you are all probably asking, “What else is new, aren’t ya?” Well, as you know we’ve had our gardens here in central Florida planted now for the last several weeks. We’ve been getting banana peppers, some gypsy peppers, a bell pepper or two, and the cukes are fixing to start rolling in as well.

Our tomatoes are just loaded, and we ought to have some of them ripening just any day now. I’ve said this before but I can’t emphasize enough how badly I want that first of the year…tomato sandwich! I love them darn things.

A Little About Bees

I guess in reality I should have called this column…Very Little About Bees. The reasoning is that this is exactly what I know about them…little to nothing.

As you guys know, we had a beekeeper, Sherry, put out 54 hives here on our place. Sherry, and her Mother Melva, have been just a wealth of information for me on the subject of bees. The problem though, is I can’t absorb it fast enough.

Man, they’re out working the bees and just “laying it on me,” information wise, and I get frustrated because I lose so much of the info they’re supplying me with. I’ll get it though…slow but sure.

A Tale or Two on Deb

Good morning to all, and we hope everyone had a joyous Easter yesterday! We certainly did, but it was just Deb and I.

Red is in Jacksonville, finishing up a job, but Stacey his wife, and little Shelby Lynn went to see him and stay a night or two. The other kids all went to church, and then headed in different directions.

Josh, Shelley (Mae), and their three boys I believe went back to their home, and hung out getting ready for work come Monday. Michelle and Kara and their kids went to my Mom and Dad’s. They had a cookout and I’m sure all went on an Easter egg hunt!

A Tale or Two on Deb

Deb and I were going, but her food intake was severely cut back due to her test today. So, I told Mom, we’d wait this time, until ole Deb can sop her a biscuit in something along with all the rest of us!

Happy Late Easter, and Shelby Lynn’s Surprise

I would like to welcome you all back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen. I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy!

I would like to wish everyone a very happy late Easter, and hope you all had a great time with family and friends.

As for Dub and I, we just stayed home because I am having a pet scan run on Monday, and I can’t eat too much of anything. So I came up with the idea that if I couldn’t eat, I’d put Dub on a diet also.

Ruthie’s Fried Chicken, Dubs Beenie Weenies

Alright…you guys want to try some good fried chicken? It’s the best I’ve ever eaten, and being in the South like so many of us are, we’ve eaten plenty of fried chicken!

This is very simple, and Mom started doing this I don’t know how many moons ago. If you have tried it this way, you know how good it is, if not, you gotta’ try it.

I’ve been sittin’ on this one for a while now…just holding it. Deb used to ask me, “Dub, why don’t you put your Mama’s fried chicken recipe up?

Weekend in the Garden

Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I usually say guys, but this morning I thought I’d let you know that by my saying guys…I still mean members of both sex. I can say that, right?

Anyway, we’re glad you GUYS stopped back in to see us this morning in Ridin’ Out the Recession! Thanks for coming!

Weekend in the Garden

Well, the week is gone again and Saturday is here for sure. Dale’s coming in this morning, and we’ll be doing a little work in the garden today.

We’ve got tomatoes to tie once more, trim up the eggplants, and cabbage, and got some dern ole weeds sticking their heads up again. By Sunday, they’ll be gone. I’ve got a scuffle hoe I’m going to put to good use in the raised bed garden.

Just Some Thoughts

You know, Deb and I are doing this column Ridin’ Out the Recession, and I have to say that it has been a blessing to us both.

I can’t thank Judi and Brian, and the CFP enough for this opportunity! It was one of the better life decisions Deb and I have made. It provides us both with something that we can do and hopefully grow with as a team.

We’ve been a husband and wife, Mother and Father team, for a number of years now, but never involved in anything such as this.
