A Little Further Along With the Greenhouse

Good morning guys…how are ya’ll today? Well, we had a pretty decent rain, close to ½ inch, and man it was so nice to watch it comin down! Everything looks and smells so fresh afterwards! We have a little chance of more the next day or two, then dipping back down in the mid to low 40’s Monday and Tuesday, I believe.

The ole greenhouse is coming along now. We still have to hang one curtain, and the two end doors. That will button up the outside, and then we’ll start worrying about a water system and power. Neither are big issues for the time being, but will need to be addressed before the “real heat” starts kickin in down the road.

I’ve about convinced myself to go with a drip system for water, but we’re still kickin around a mist system. We’d put these just outta the ground where the water will hit at the base of the plants. Keepin the water down low, will help to prevent blight. It is a little easier to control by keepin as much water as possible off the leaves, or that’s what I keep hearin…from people that know.

Cream Cheese Chicken, Carrots Jo Ann, Eight Layer Salad, Pear Bread…and the Post Office

Well, good morning once again! How is everybody today? We hope all are well, and welcome back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen. C’mon in and sit a spell.

You know, honestly I don’t enjoy in the least posting on political events. Yet in the same breath the time has come that maybe we all need to be shouting out over a government gone wild. It’s up to us, “We the People” to turn this craziness back around. That, or kiss your freedoms, your liberties, you’re right as an American to have the opportunity to grow and prosper, and by doing so creating a better way of life for not only you, your children, and even strangers.

The term “strangers” is used kinda loosely, but if you create jobs through running or operating a small business, that’s exactly what you’re doing. By doing so, “the strangers” become friends and business associates, family, so to speak.

Today, this, AND the “American Dream,” are fast becoming a past tense. We’ve been dumbed down as a society, just look at our educational system, we’ve been “watered down” as a society in general through the advocating of our elected officials to “turn a blind eye” in regards to the illegal immigration taking place in our Country today, and the literal stealing of our tax dollars through all these so called entitlement programs. Whether they be, for the “poor and oppressed,” or through the public sector workplace!

This morning I flipped on the local news, like a dummy because I KNEW better, and what’s on? The United States Postal Service is expecting to lose…over 18 BILLION DOLLARS…THIS YEAR ALONE!
They now want to cut Saturday delivery, shut down THOUSANDS of Post Offices across the Country, AND increase the price of stamps once again.

Going to Start the Seedbed Benches

Good morning to you all! We hope everyone is doing well, and thanks for stopping back in to visit with us! Beautiful weather is back here in ole Florida again! Still on the dry side, but plenty of sunshine, warm days, and even the nights are getting nice too! Nice enough to…start settin out some seeds!

You know we’d pretty much finished the beds in our greenhouse and after doin so we left plenty of space to build a few tables to work our seedbeds on. Boy, this greenhouse thing is new to us, but man…it’s gonna be “right up our alley!”

There’s SO much to learn, and the ways of goin out and doin things are endless, or at least that’s how it seems to be?? Good night, I’m confused already and ain’t even got started yet! LOL!

Pressure Cooker Stew, Pan-Fried Cabbage, Carrot Nut Bread, Granny’s Relish, and…Circumcision??

Good morning guys, and how are you? Well, we’re back in the kitchen today…Miz Judi’s Kitchen. Miz Judi bein exactly that…Miz Judi. She has a sidekick who goes by Tonto, I’m sorry, I’m thinkin about the Lone Ranger, dern! No, actually his name is Brian, and what a help those two have been! Check out the Canada Free Press and learn more about them both!

Miz Judi convinced Deb and I about a year ago to start Ridin Out the Recession in Miz Judi’s Kitchen, and we’ve had a lot of fun with it. Better yet, we’ve met so many good people that it’s amazed us both. It was, and still is just a hoot to be involved in!

While we’re on the subject of cookin this morning, I just want to say that up until just recently, the last couple weeks or so, we’d forgotten what a young man could eat like. Then all of a sudden we had the chance to once again witness such a feat…with TWO of em!

Mark had gone on vacation, so I utilized the two guys that help him in our business out here on the place.

Now I gotta say that I’m very impressed with them both. They’re absolutely great kids, excuse me, young men, they’re both good workers, and very polite, and respectful. Traits we don’t see nearly as much as we should these days.

The Beds Are In The Greenhouse, and Savin Go-rillers

Good morning guys! How’s everybody doin today? Deb and I are both great, and feelin…good! We hope you guys are too!

Well…the beds are in the greenhouse! At least I believe they are. As of now this is what we’ve decided on, BUT, you know me…this could change at any minute! For example…

We started out going to have 4 beds…there are now 3?? We were going to have 4 three foot bed widths, with two of them 50 feet long, and two 40 feet long. Not anymore! LOL!

We ended up having one three foot bed width, 50 feet long, one 5 foot width, 44 feet long, and one 4 foot bed width, 30 feet long. What made me change things around? I don’t know, just seemed like the thing to do? PLUS, it just aggravated ole Deb to no end! I love it!! LOL!

Pasta Salads…and the Fence

Good morning once again. We hope all are well…AND warm! Dad-gum, it slipped around and dropped to 34 here last night, and supposed to be a little cooler tonight.

I know to most, these types “of cold” temps are laughable, but when it’s been pushin 80 for the last couple weeks, all I can say is…brrrrr!

I had Cheyenne wrapped up in a big towel while she was sittin in her chair this morning while we were out on the porch drinkin coffee. She kept eyein me like…you’re pretty stingy with that coffee today, huh?

When I went back in to get a second cup, she came in too, and WOULDN’T go back out with me! I was goin, “C’mon Shiny Girl, c’mon,” and she wouldn’t even lift her head. I believe she thought I’d lost my mind, plus I think she was wonderin why I just couldn’t drink my coffee inside?

We’ll share a few salads today, but I have to own up that last night…we had chili! Hit the spot too!

A Few Laughs For Your Weekend

Good morning guys, and how is everyone today? We hope all are well, and ready to take a couple days of leisure. Well, the womenfolk anyway, as if all the rest of you guys are like I am, our leisure time is spent…on “honey-do’s!”

We had a big event at our house last night around 10:00 pm…RAIN! You betcha! I’m not sure how much we had yet since its only 3:40 this morning, but at 10 it was comin down in sheets. It was supposed to come in several times, with most just a good soakin rain, but the first batch was a “toad-strangler!”

Man, we were needin it. We’d just planted a few rows in the garden this past week, and the pastures were bone dry. The weather has been warm enough for the grass to grow, but the problem was that it was just too dry to do anything.

So, we’ve now had rain, but there’s a cool snap right behind it. They’re callin for a 39 in Tampa in the morning, followed by a 37 the following morning. So here at our place we’ll be lookin at mid-30’s or possibly a little cooler. We’re always 4-5 degrees cooler than Tampa proper.

Buttermilk Chicken, Jill’s Sweet Potatoes and… “Baked Possum,” Uum,uum!

Well, good morning to you this morning, and welcome back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen, although I’m not sure after today how much longer we’ll actually be in “HER kitchen”…once she sees Deb and I will be bakin a dern possum in there this morning! Shoot, she’ll git over it…I hope!!

If not, I want you to know “straight up” Miz Judi, the possum…was Deb’s idea! LOL!

Well, we better get started this morning, and maybe, just maybe, ole Judi won’t know we even cooked a dern possum in her kithchen, huh? Let me fire off the cook stove, and away we go!

You guys know by now that Deb and I love lookin at cookbooks, and probably me, worse than her. If ya’ll remember the old recipe for getting to sleep at night, well, it was just countin some sheep.

That just never would do it for me. I’d much rather go to sleep countin something else…like pork roasts! So, many times I’ll read through a cookbook just prior to “hittin the sack.” Works every time!

The Seeds We Ordered From Baker Creek

Well, top of the morning to you! We hope this finds every one feelin just great, and you’re all off to a fine start today!

Rain…might have a shot at some the next few days. The percentages aren’t anything to write home about, only 20 and 30 percent chance, with a 50 percenter thrown in for good measure towards weeks end, BUT, it sure beats the chances we’d been havin!

We’ve been busy lately my friends as we’re preppin the garden and movin along with the greenhouse as well. Today we’ll try and get our lettuce, Romaine, Iceberg, and gonna try some Black-Seeded Simpson too…whatever that is! LOL! We’ll also be plantin some cauliflower.

We’ll be putting in some broccoli and cabbage once again. The cold got our first batch of these last two, so we’ll be using the age old adage…if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. LOL! Though it wasn’t all that funny while we were takin the little muthas up after the freeze!

Then, between the 10th and 20th, we’ll be plantin our onion sets, and potatoes. The potatoes though, might end up bein a problem?? Our supplier just got a batch of sets in…ALL rotten! So, I guess we’ll try and run some down in another couple spots…we’ll see.

But, like all things, gardening is not any different, you win some…you lose some!

Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company

Well, hello once again, and we’re glad ya’ll stopped back in to visit! We hope all are finer than frog’s hair this mornin, and that life is good in regards to you and yours!

You know, in today’s world, too often Deb and I see young men and women without a work ethic, at least the type we were brought up with. We, like so many of you guys, worked from a young age. No, our parents didn’t “kill us” demanding so much to be done, but simply “ENCOURAGED” us be part of.

They were teaching us that to grow and expand our knowledge you had to WORK at it. They taught us that in our Country, the United States of America, you had opportunities, and through these opportunities it provided for us we could be literally, whatever you wanted to be.

Hard work, not taking no for an answer, believing in yourself, your word being your bond, right down to a word I consider maybe the most important…RESPECT. Respect for you, and others. All these traits ending up allowing you, through your own convictions, that you CAN be the best you can be!
