Seedlings Headed Into 4” Pots, a Couple Gardening Videos…AND the Moron Brothers!

Hello again, and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession! Man, it’s sure nice of you guys to drop back in and visit with Deb and I a little while this mornin! You guys are great!

Well, Deb and I have been busy in the greenhouse. This is so much fun. Yes, it is work, but it’s also something both of us really enjoy. There are some major pluses for us both in regards to putting the greenhouse up as well.

The first is health. Good, fresh nutritious vegetables…year round. You all know Deb has Stage 4 breast cancer, and that after taking one chemo treatment she opted to take the alternative route. She chose quality of life versus being knocked down through the effects of the chemo.

Today, 11 months later she looks great, feels great, and is one busy woman. She works outside with us, does her housework, keeps me fed, which in itself is quite a feat, and helps me in the greenhouse. Never misses a beat!

Mini Fruitcakes, Buttermilk Pies, Bread Pudding, and German Chocolate Upside Down Cake

Hello, hello! How are you guys today? Deb and I would like to welcome ya’ll back into…Miz Judi’s Kitchen. Thanks for comin!

We’ve been telling everybody how pretty the weather’s been lately, and shoot…today’s even prettier. High of about 85, a good breeze blowin, and spring’s bearin down upon us! Boy, it’s so nice to be alive and kickin, isn’t it?

Today we’ve hung another set of shelf racks in the greenhouse, planted 20 strawberry plants, and are now mowing a few high areas with the little push mower and bagger. Getting some fresh, green grass clippings to go on the compost pile.

Ole Deb’s been rakin leaves under a big oak tree where she’s fixin her up a flower bed. She feels great and is busy as a dern bee! She’s a mess, I know that much! She’s into something constantly!

We’re taking her leaves and they’re going in the compost pile too. It’s time to get that mutha fired off again, so we’re loadin it down, and fixin to start turning it a couple times a week. The weather is warm enough now to heat that baby up!

Two Beds in the Greenhouse Doing Well…if you like weeds

Well… “top of the morning to ya!” We hope all is well in regards to you guys! Deb, Cheyenne, and I are doing just fine.

The weather is absolutely beautiful, and we had an inch of rain a couple nights back. Good night it had been dry, dry, dry! I’m thankful for every drop, but this year rain is in short supply. But this is our dry season. We normally don’t have any and just catch them out ahead of a front.

In the average season we won’t see much until June, then, the afternoon showers start, many times daily. If it rains early and the sun gets back out, it’s just like a dern sauna. You catch one late in the evenin, sit out on the porch, swingin and that good breeze blowin through…that’s livin!

Well, the greenhouse is still coming along, and boy are we enjoying this. This really is truly a great experience for us both.

Are We Simply Saying Goodbye To Our Country?

Hey guys, how are ya again? I just received this through an e-mail, and I just had to put it up. The friend that sent this to me this morning isn’t just a friend, he’s become a part of our family. Deb and I both love him, because he’s a great guy, a very loving man, and a hard, hard worker.

He was born in India, but a part of which became the property of Pakistan when they won their independence, I believe is a correct statement. His family lost everything they owned, moved to India proper, and started over again.

He’s by title, a nuclear engineer, with experience in the civilian and military spectrum of this field. He came to the US in 1959, and worked in the construction of nuclear plants here in our Country. To say he is very educated is an understatement I’m sure.

He retired while still a fairly young man. He became tired of the travel that took him away from home and family, for extended amounts of time. He started building commercial properties and owns commercial properties to this day. He works on average about 17 hours a day…he loves his work, and most times he can do what needs to be done…from home.

He HAS lived…” “The American Dream.” He came to our Country to better his, as well as his family’s lives, and has paid taxes in support of our Country for years and years. He’s created innumerable jobs. He recognized what our Country had to offer him, and understood to really realize his potential…America was to become HIS HOME!

He loves our Country and what it stands for, but today, just like so many others of us, sees our great Country being run into the ground from excessive government spending, a government grown way too large, and the ruination of our citizens through the “giveaway mentality!”

Macaroni Salad, Black-Eye Pea Salad, Fruit Salad, Jellied Grapefruit With Pecans, and Potato Soup

Good morning! Hope you guys are all doing fine, and welcome back…into Miz Judi’s Kitchen.

Today we’ll share a few salad recipes and a soup recipe as well. Deb and I both have gotten to the point we like a salad at least a couple times a day, although most are straight veggies or some type of fruit salad.

It’s changed our style of eating, which basically before was…put it down in front of me, and I’ll take care of the rest! Honestly though, I still have my moments, but we both eat much better than we ever have in the past.

To be truthful…we can tell it too!

The salads we’ll share today are heavier than our regular routine, but dad-gum they’re still good! Once more, we’ll take a step backwards in regards to our calorie intake, but we both believe this doesn’t affect us too bad if done in “every so often” intervals. Kinda like rewarding ourselves.

I try to convince Deb that since “I’m considerably larger” than she is…maybe I ought to be “rewarded” a little more often!! For some reason or other, she doesn’t seem to be buyin that one??

Well, before I get in more trouble this morning than I normally stay in…let’s eat a dern salad or two! All are easy to make, and not very time consuming at all. Enjoy…

“Ribs on the Ridge,” and Some Seedlings Are Coming Up

Good morning to you all, and God Bless everybody!

Well, yesterday Deb and I took a little “our time,” and went to a barbeque cook and contest here in Haines City. This is called, “Ribs on the Ridge.”

To be honest, we both were quite surprised at the amount of contestants, AND the number of people in attendance. But to be honest, it’s not surprising when you’re talkin the South…and barbeque. We both had a good time and it was a nice little outin.

My cousin Vince was in the cook, so we went over to his setup and hung out a while, visited, and…sampled?? Vince is who did the cookin for Deb’s bash she had a month or so back. As bad as I hate to admit it, that scoundrel can cook! He found his callin, and by his doin so, dern if we don’t try to “hang out” with him bout every chance we get! LOL!

We did see him prior to his “cookin days,” just not as often! Vince’s team is called, “Hog Jim’s,” after his Grandfather. Before Deb and I left, I’d been hung with the handle… “Hog Dub!”

I told Deb that I’d never even met Vince’s Grandfather! She then informed me that Vince’s Granddaddy’s nickname had absolutely NO BEARING whatsoever in the reasoning behind why they were callin me that!

For the life of me… I still “don’t get it??” Deb tells me that it’s better “I don’t…get it!”

Hotdog Relish, Cream Cheese Bars, Easy Pecan Cookies, Cake Mix Cookies, and “Ole Skipper”

Good morning guys, how is everybody today? We sure hope all goes well for each and every one of you! We’re back once more in ole Miz Judi’s Kitchen and gonna see what we can come up with for ya’ll today! So grab a chair, have a seat, and let’s shoot the bull for a while.

First off…we got the outside of our greenhouse finished yesterday…YES! Man we’re so proud we’ve finally got it “buttoned up,” and this is gonna be a WHOLE lotta fun! I have to admit that there’s nothing more fun to me…than watchin Deb work! I could literally watch it for hours on end! LOL!

I used to be of the belief that Deb could be doing one thing, while I was on another project, and for most of our lives that was the case. Deb would handle the “homefront,” while I’d be out tryin to make us a livin. It worked really well.

You Just Gotta Laugh Some

Hello! How are you guys today? We sure hope all’s well, and everyone is doing just fine! Deb and I are both feelin great, and looking forward to each day that comes our way! Life is good, isn’t it? You betcha!

You know, in life you have good days and then scattered throughout life you have days that sometimes just aren’t so good. One thing Deb and I have learned through the years is that most times…life is what you make it.

After her diagnosis with cancer last April Fool’s Day, I asked her was there anything that she’d like to do, anywhere she’d like to go…basically, “WHAT can I do to help? Her answer… “Nothing. I want to spend as much time as I can with the kids and grandkids, BUT, I want you to keep me laughing!” I have.

By the way, ole Deb is doing absolutely fantastic! I don’t believe she’s ever been healthier in her entire life, honestly.

So, in that spirit this morning, let’s forget about our troubles for a few minutes and have us a laugh or two! You gotta laugh, my friends. It truly is, “the best medicine!”

Feather Sponge Cake, Orange Slice Cake, and Lena McCormack’s Hillbilly Cake

Good morning guys. Welcome back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen. Why don’t ya’ll come in and sit with us a while?

The weather’s begun to warm up again, lows in the mid-fifties at night. We’ve been wanting to set out some seeds, but with the nights being a little too cool for seedlings to germinate, we’ve waited. We didn’t want to start them in the house.

But Tuesday afternoon Deb and I put out quite a bit of seeds. We dropped the curtains and we couldn’t believe how the greenhouse heated up. This is brand spankin new to us, so we’re kinda feeling things out, but still probably in too big a hurry! LOL!

We set out 413 tomato sets. I know, that’s a lot I guess, it is to us, but we’ll use 40 or so ourselves. Shoot, right there alone means we’ll only have in the upper 300’s left! LOL! These we’ll give away to family and friends. We can’t wait to see the percentage of germination number one, we’re curious to see how well they grow off, and what varieties we prefer.

What an Inspiring Story, and Our Views of It

Hello good friends, how is everybody today? Well, it had been around 80 most of last week, but once again we had a cool snap last night…it’ll only get to 72 today! LOL!

You guys know that we don’t do too much politically in regards to our writing, or bull crap, whatever you want to call it. We like to talk about our garden, or related projects, throw up some recipes, or just “jerk your chain” a little.

But Deb and I both are becoming so frustrated from the complete and total arrogance of our politicians, and their lack of concern of what they’re doing to our Country, that sometimes we have to stop and throw “our two-cents” in! I guess unfortunately for some, this just happens to be one of those days…God Bless ya’ll!

They’re spending us into oblivion without the least bit of concern for “We the People,” or, our families. This is fact, you only have to look.

Check this out, it was sent to us by a good friend of ours. It’s a great story, but one not condoned by much of our political “elite,” media, or for sure our more liberal society today…

A Great Story
