No Peekie Stew, Potato Soup

These once again come from ole Shelly Mae, and her Church Cook Book. I don’t think that around our house Deb could use the name No Peekie Stew. The reasoning is that ever since we’ve first met, no matter what she might be cooking, once I got a good whiff of it…I had to pull a lid and take a little “Peekie” into the pot!

But now…Don’t Worry Boys…She’s Got Foot Rot!

Words of wisdom and knowledge from an old Florida Cracker…uh huh!

The quote, “Don’t Worry Boys…She’s Got Foot Rot,” is actually from an old Florida Cracker, but one with not an intimate knowledge of raising beef cattle here in the Sunshine State, at the time he was making this statement anyway!

The “old Cracker,” is my Dad, and “the boys” being referred to here were myself, my brother Shane, and our good friend John, whom we consider a brother and part of our family. John has worked for my Dad since high school, and John and I went to school together.

Ruthie’s Honey Hole and Cook Shed

Just a couple of videos for you guys.

The first is a video of my Mom’s or “Ruthie” as we all call her, showing her fishing hole, or as I call it, her “honey hole!” It also shows you two stories of my Dad’s three story dock he built, one story at a time! He’d build one, the water would rise and he’d build another storie, until he ended up with three stories of dock!

This video gives you a glimpse of Ruthie’s Cook Shed as well. This really turned out nice, and is just a great place to cook and sit around after a good meal and visit. It also gives them a good place just to go sit in the afternoon.

My Dad Always said…”If You Want it Bad Enough!”

You know, yesterday was Mother’s Day and what a good time we all had. We were all there except for my sister and her family as they live in North Carolina. But besides them, we were all there, and we got to see all the grandkids.

We hope each and every one of you experienced exactly the same.

One thing I did notice was my Dad was really beginning to age. Little as you think though, he’ll be 77 this July. Where does the time go?

Jus Shooting the Breeze II

You know I was picking at Kunoichi and Bonnie the last time we were “Jus Shooting the Breeze,” and I might have found a couple more to pick on instead of these two, if I’d been just a little sharper! But, when it comes to someone “putting their foot in their mouth, you’re looking at one of the best!

This comment from Barbara;

What a fun column to read today. Thanks guys. Dub, I hate to tell you, but I think Bonnie and Kunoichi can give you a good run for your money when it comes to telling tall tales.

Update on the Garden

I thought I’d share with you all today an update on our garden. First though, I have to make someone salivate! He and I have talked about eating tomato sandwiches, from our childhood up to today, and I’d like to share something with just Craig for a minute.

Hey Craig…I ate my first fresh, vine-ripe, right out of the garden tomato sandwich just a couple days back!! Oh man…it was soooo good. Miracle Whip, salt, and heavy black pepper, I gotta tell you I was thinking about how you’d love to have one of these!

I swear, it was so juicy that when I finished it, it was all over the front of my shirt! I’ve always said, “It ain’t good unless you get it all over you!” Okay, I got that outta my system!

Jus Shootin’ the Breeze

What’s up my friends? I don’t know about you guys, but dad-gum if I wasn’t getting tired of just saying “Good Morning!” I needed a change of pace, so…what’s up!

I still want to tell you all hello, and that we hope all goes well with you and yours! Also, thank you for coming back in to sit with us awhile.

Kunoichi had a comment yesterday I found interesting about Goliath frogs. We had been talking about invasive species, and she brought up these frogs.
