Roast Pork and Cranberries

Back when we were in high school, I had gone over to a buddy of mines for lunch. Jeff was a good friend of mine, along with his sister and brother. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Davis were really great people, and were almost like a second set of parents to me. It is fact that they loved me, and I them in return.

Anyway, Jeff had his girlfriend over, and she had prepared lunch for us all at the Davis house. Her main dish? Lasagna. Ole’ Dub’s favorite dish then, and may very well be today?? Lasagna!! I was in on this deal!

The Fall Garden Is Doing Well

Good morning, and how are you all today?

You know we planted the fall garden last Friday, which was a week today. We planted peas and okra. Everything is up and growing good. We’re really looking forward to a mess of those peas, and Deb and I both love the okra as well.

We try to continually amend the soil through applying cow manure, grass clippings, leaves, hay, and the addition of compost we get from our compost heap. All are lightly tilled into the soil, and from the looks of things this is working out to our advantage from a vegetable growing standpoint. We even in between gardens burn a few brushpiles in it.

Kittens, and Funerals…and Funerals for Cats at the Hayes House

Good morning guys! Welcome back, and thanks for reading.

As you know, two of Deb’s sisters came in Monday, and have those women had a good time. They stay up late and get up early. I don’t know how they do it.

Laugh, good Lord those three have laughed, and laughed. I sat with them a while last night and listened to em, till they about drove me crazy. Actually they WERE funny.

AP’s Corner…

We’re going to start something today, that we’ll be doing every once in a while. It will be a column of short political facts, and comments from a good, good friend of mine, AP.

AP is a veteran of WWII, a very successful businessman, and has rubbed shoulders through the years with some very well to do, and powerful people. AP is a talented artist, and I’m beginning to wonder if there is anything AP can’t do!

He used to do the “Nose art” on the bombers and fighters in his spare time during the war, and made a pretty good “chunk of change,” by doing so. One of his nose paintings ended up in an Air Force Museum, although I’m not sure which one, but I’ll find out for you. The title of this particular painting is, “Shoo, Shoo Baby.”

AP and I have known each other probably a couple years or better now, and just really liked each other…we just hit it off, as you know happens sometimes in your lives. He’s just one super guy, and is as nice as the day is long.

We do have a problem with each other, and this is simply…he’s a dern Yankee, and I’m a redneck! We have a blast going back and forth with each other over this. He claims he can’t understand a dern thing I say, and swears he needs an interpreter to decipher my “Southern drawl,” for him! He keeps saying, “Slow down, speak clearly, and MAYBE I can understand enough of what you’re saying to at least possibly be in the same conversation!”

I’ve picked up a Yankee saying or two myself, and I just throw one of these up to him when he starts with me. This being…Fah-git-about-it. He just dies laughing when I tell him this.

For his birthday I sent him a Jeff Foxworthy “redneck Calendar.” He says he hung the calendar, in the only appropriate place in his house…the bathroom. I told him that was a good idea! Because of his age most of his time is spent there!

I’ve written different redneck sayings, and words for him to take some time, study them, and eventually he may become an “Honorary Redneck,” if he practices hard enough.

He asked how he could tell if it was starting to rub off on him some? I told him simple. When the day came while walking his dog, and they both stopped and peed under the same tree, well, he was learning.

AP is a true conservative, who is very concerned with the direction our Country is headed, and does some writing from time to time on this subject. He used to do a weekly column titled, “The Revolution,” but his health has backed him off this a little, but he still researches and writes, just not as much.

I find all AP has to say informative and very appropriate, and we need more like him. He is concerned just as we all are with this election coming up in 2012, and is trying to do all he can from his standpoint.

I know you guys will like hearing what he has to say, so, let’s take a look…
OBAMA CARE………the Federal Court of Appeals just ruled against the bill……next step the Supreme Court …..

WALL STREET……this past week the Dow index, for the first time in its 145 year history that it registered over 400 points in 4 consecutive days…..

OBAMA STICKS TO HIS STIMULUS SCRIPT … In 1993 comedy DAVE, a small town impersonator, is called on to pretend to be the actual President of the United States when the commander-chief takes ill. DAVE, steps into the White House, takes his new role too far, and with wild eyed innocence, promises America “I am initiating a program that that will insure a job for every American who wants one”…….a short time ago in Holland, Michigan, President Obama made a striking similar pledge: ” Over the coming weeks, I am putting out more proposals, week by week, that will help businesses hire and put people back to work.”

It’s any one’s guess if president Obama is taking a page out of DAVE’S playbook, hoping that the magic of Hollywood would resonate with Americans. Only DAVE, President Obama. Former economic adviser Ms Romer (who still believes that the failed $787 billion bill was too small) believes that only the Federal Government can create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

WHY DID AMERICA RECEIVE A CREDIT DOWN GRADE
…..ANSWER…..Undermining our Legacy of Liberty…..”No pecuniary consideration is more urgent, than the regular redemyion and the discharge of public debt, or none can delay be more injurious, or an economy of time more valuable….Cherish public credit. One method of preserving it is to use it sparingly as possible: avoiding occasions of expense (and) avoiding likewise accumulation of debt…..not ungenerously throwing upon posterity, the burden which we ourselves should bear” George Washington December 3, 1793.

Clearly in denial as to the underlying reasons for the downgrade, Obama claimed that the ‘world financial markets, “still believe our credit is still AAA, and world’s investors agree…(message from Planet Obama to Earth) and he concluded by shooting the messenger, U.S. Treasury Secretary Geithner who said ” the SP showed terrible judgement, and a complete lack of knowledge of the basic U.S. fiscal budget math”

Is Obama smart ? Obama thinks he is the political equivalent of Charles Lindbergh and Chick Yeager, ” I am a better speech writer than my speech writers. I know more about policies on any particular issue than my policy directors. And I will tell you right now (in2008) that I am a better political director than any political director.”

Who is to blame…according to Sen. Kerry, Sen. Leahy, Advisor Axelrod, Governor Howard Dean, Martin Frost, Sen. Charles Schumer, NY Times Maureen Dowd, Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who is quoted” if sane Republicans do not stand up to this Hezbollah faction in our midst, the Tea Party will take the GOP on a suicide mission”

In conclusion, old Tom Jefferson said “What country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not warned from time to time, that the people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right to the facts, pardon them and pacify them. The tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants”

And AP is saying “that’s all folks, see ya’ll in the funny papers…”

If you notice, I am making progress with AP. Look how he closed out…see ya’ll in the funny papers. This used to be a no-no!

Well, as you guys can plainly see from the title today, I’ll have my work cut out for me the next few days…company’s comin’!
Sadly for me, this isn’t good friends dropping in for a visit…this is family (Deb’s family on top of that), coming down checkin’ on their “little sister.” I got to be on my “A-game” while they’re in town.

Melanie, whose husband JH, has called her “Puss” ever since I can remember, and Christine, “Chris” are the two that are coming today. Since it just aggravates Melanie to no end being nicknamed Puss, I’ll refer to her today as Puss from here on out!!

The Fall Peas Are Planted & A New Compost Pile

Good morning guys. How is everyone today?

The last couple weeks have been pretty busy for us here on the place.

First we got the new piece of property cleaned up, fenced, mowed and the grass seed planted. It has had two good rains since the seed went in the ground. This was just right in regards to timing. It should do well.

Applesauce Cake, Deviled Chicken

Everybody who knows me knows one thing about me…well two things. I like to talk, and I like to eat. You guys can see the “I like to talk,” handle fits me to a tee, but I like to eat almost as much.

Deb and Red went to Publix today to pick up a few chickens. Looking through a recipe book earlier today, I came across this first recipe, and I promise you, we’ll be using one of those chickens she bought in this recipe. It sounds good, and as the author says, it is delicious when served over rice. I’ll let you know.

“Just Give It To Us!”

Good morning to you all today. We hope all is well on your “homefront.”

Let me start off by saying how sorry I am in regards to the good and honest working people in England, that for the last several days have been under attack by rampaging mobs. This is a terrible state of affairs and our heart goes out to these people.

Looting, unrest, destruction, beatings, killings, robbery, and even burning of buildings and businesses has become commonplace. These are not the actions of a law abiding, and civilized society, and once more we’d like to express our heartfelt sympathies, to the honest, working class citizens.

After All Deb…It IS Cheyenne’s Chair!

To all you guys out there that have dogs or cats, you know how attached you can become to them. The love they share with you is unconditional, and comes from the heart. In return, the love we share with them is exactly the same as well…unconditional.

Many of you know that our “little girl” is Cheyenne, and she’s been part of our family for over 4 years now, and she will be 5 next April. During these years she has brought constant joy and we’ve had many laughs provided by Cheyenne, simply being Cheyenne.

We live where there are numerous hogs, coons, possums (we just can’t bring ourselves to put the letter “O” in front), deer, and other wild life. With this type of surroundings, she’s “in her environment.”

Zellwood Corn and Sausage Casserole, Crunchy Sausage Casserole, Swiss Chicken

In my younger years we lived in Apopka, and my parents still do.

Not far from Apopka is Zellwood, and it is famous for the Zellwood Corn Festival. This started out very small, and now is attended by thousands.
