Rednecks…Pt. 1:

Good morning all, and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession in Miz Judi’s Kitchen! We’re happy you came in to visit this morning!

Today we’re gonna let our hair down a little and look at the humor of, and the humor directed at red necks.

Living in the South, we have had the handle “red neck” hung on us. We, meaning all of us natural born Southern folks, and the label, “natural born” not to be takin lightly. Why you might ask, well, that’s actually pretty simple. We have papers documenting it as so.

Being a redneck myself, I heard one the other day I thought really funny. Here goes…

What is the difference between President Obama and his dog Bo?

Bo has papers…

Rednecks…Pt. 2:

Well, we’re back and ready to finish up our posts on rednecks! We hope you enjoyed Part 1 and fixin to kick in with Part 2.

We’ll start off today with just a couple more jokes in regards to rednecks, and then we’ll throw out for you guys a different spin on the term redneck.

Again, most here in the South aren’t bothered in the least by us being looked upon as rednecks. Actually, we think of it as our “badge of honor!” We laugh at each other, and direct a lot of the laughter back at ourselves…playing the role of a redneck.

In essence…it’s all in fun! As Deb says, “If ya cain’t take the heat…then stay outta the kitchen!”

Having Swamp Cabbage Tonight:

Well, we just cut down a cabbage palm this morning. The people that know me understand I don’t like to cut down a tree if I don’t have to. Most times, here on the place if we have to get rid of a tree, we simply dig it up and transplant it.

Now, there are times the trees are so large we can’t transplant them, but whenever we can, we will transplant them to a spot they’re not in our way. The ones we can’t move, we’ll cut them up and use them for firewood.

The reason for cutting the palm this morning was simply it was growing up among a pretty couple of oaks, and by the palm being there, it was restricting the oaks from growing off as they should. So, we cut it.

BUT…

The Three Sisters:

Good morning, and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession in Miz Judi’s Kitchen. Thanks for droppin back by to visit with us!

As you guys know by now, Deb and I consider ourselves very fortunate to be “Southern born, and Southern bred.” We’re proud of our heritage, as I’m sure others are in regards to the parts of the Country they’re from. It’s our way of life, and actually, the only one we know.

With this being said, you know also in regards to our recipes, most have a Southern heritage, and this is what we’ll discuss today…our Southern cuisine, and its roots.

What is Southern cooking? To me, Southern cooking is an accumulation of all different types of food products that have evolved from many different areas worldwide, and were brought here by many different groups of people.

EVOLUTION/ OR REVOLUTION………..OCTOBER 22, 2011

“AP,” or Arnold Praver is a good friend of mine. AP is in his nineties, a WWII veteran, a very successful businessman, and a great guy to boot.

His intention with his weekly column is simply to help other American citizen’s to know and understand the political goings on in our great Country today. AP, like so many others, the Canada Free Press with Judi and Brian come to mind, has decided to take the time, put in the research, and put onto paper his findings, and I for one am grateful to him for doing so!

He started the column off as The Revolution, but after the Republican takeover of the House, and near majority in the Senate, ole AP became optimistic and changed the title of his column…he dropped the “R” and it became Evolution.

Well, I see this week he has titled his column Evolution/Revolution. Let’s all see what he has to say…

Double-Cut Pork Chops, The Painter’s Black-Eyed Pea Cakes, Comeback Sauce, AND Homemade Mayonnaise:

You know, Deb and I are both from Florida, born and raised. Both of our families have been involved in some type of agriculture for years. Growing up we didn’t have a whole lot, but we stayed fed and clothed, and we were happy most times.

We lived on our porches in the warmer months sitting and enjoying our rocking chairs, catchin what little breeze we could, to cool off some. Our porches were our social gathering sites as well.

When Deb and I built our home, one of the first decisions we made was to have a wrap-around porch, and today, just like in our childhoods, we congregate…on the porch! Nine times out of ten, you pull up to our place, and you’re greeted from a swing on our porch. It is the most used feature by far, at our place.

Stuffed Potato Soup, Soup Beans and Skillet Cornbread, and…Chicken Soup With Homemade Noodles:

Well guys, cold weather is beginning to show itself again. Much more so for you “Northerners!” I personally consider a “Northerner” say, from Tallahassee on up!

So, I don’t know about the rest of you, but this time of the year means we’ll start eating more soups. Deb and I both enjoy most types of soups, stews and chili, and one of the best attributes of a good ole pot of soup is simply…the more you re-heat it, the better flavored they are!

Deb’s Doing Just Fine:

Hey guys. I just wanted to share a video of Deb out picking peas. I’d just got up from my Saturday afternoon “power nap,” and Deb says…”Let’s go pick some Crowders.” I was like, “Yeah, right!”

Once I saw she was serious, I asked for her to wait until tomorrow and I’d help her. She told me she’d rather go ahead and get them, and then I suggested very strongly…okay, but don’t miss any! LOL!

Planting Mustards… Check Out Our Cherry Tomato, and Quail Legs, Too:

Hey guys, and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession.

You know we’d mentioned earlier about taking our black-eyed peas up and letting the cows eat them. Those peas did really well for us and gave us a good amount to can and put up.
In their place we planted three rows of mustard greens. We planted seeds, 2-3 per hill about 9-12 inches apart. They’re planted in 100’ rows, set apart 4 feet. We’ve given them plenty of room and we’re hoping these do really well for us too.

EVOLUTION…….OCTOBER 20, 2011

“I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE PEOPLE. If given the truth they can be depended on to meet any national crises. The great point is to bring them the real facts………Abraham Lincoln

STILL JOBLESS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS……This past week., at the White House, President Obama faced the media to once again plug the American Jobs Act, his plan for more stimulus spending, paid for with even more taxes. In September, the U.S. unemployment rate held steady at dismal 9.1%, with 14 million Americans out of work. In September about 103,000 jobs were added, but 45,000 of those were Verizon strikers returning to work, and the number of long-term unemployed (27 weeks or more) increased by 208,000? According to the CBO the unemployment rate will remain above 8% until 2014.
