A Few More Video’s From Our Friends:

Hello again, and welcome back to Ridin Out the Recession. We appreciate you stopping back by, so grab a chair and let’s talk awhile!

You know, we’ve met so many people through our site, and by doing the You Tube videos we’ve made even more. We’re sharing a few more of these in the hopes that they may inspire you to plant a garden, or if nothing else, maybe even just planting a “few hills” of different vegetables.

The taste, fresh outta the garden, is hands down much better than you could ever get out of the grocery store. For those who don’t garden, you don’t have to have 3-4 acres, but your own backyard can produce all kinds of goodies for you.

Better yet, it’s something the kids may end up loving to help you with. You’d be amazed at the number of those little guys who would show interest if you’d only spend a few minutes each day with them. They too, are intrigued by watching the little plants pop up outta the ground.

REVOLUTION……DECEMBER 20TH 2011

“And what rewards virtue? Do you think the communist commissar rewards virtue? You think Hitler rewarded virtue? You think, excuse me, if you’ll pardon me, American presidents reward virtue? Do they choose their appointees on the basis of virtue of the people appointed, or on the basis of their political clout?”…Milton Freidman

BATTLE FLAG COMES DOWN IN IRAQ………After nearly NINE YEARS of war, tens of thousands of casualties, including 4,500 dead…..and more than $800 billion spent, the U.S. military on Thursday formerly ended its mission in Iraq, and prepared to leave the country. In the coming days, the last of our remaining 4,000 troops will follow the traditional “LION 6” drenched flag and head home
Within months, the destruction of Saddam Husain’s military was destroyed, and the feeling was that this would be a short war. As the advanced military began the taking of Baghdad. a growing insurgency emerged and turned a quick victory into a long slog.

On the Home Front:

Good morning to you all! Thanks for stopping back by today. I want to put a little emphasis on the importance of ya’ll being good this time of the year. You all know the little bearded, chubby guy in the red suit’s comin! So you better keep it in check for the next seven, eight days or so. I know I’ve put the brakes on my “actin up” for the last couple weeks! Because of this, Deb just LOVES this time of year!

Well, let’s talk about what we’ve been up to this past week.

First off, we had a nice little surprise. Deb and I went out to the compost pile, and good night, at the little tomato plants. They are all volunteers, and they’ve shot up like weeds. We guess they’ve popped up from our juice scraps each day is the only thing we can figure.

So, yesterday Deb and I got out 10 5-gallon buckets, drilled holes in the bottom for them to drain good, and set those baby’s! That gives us 11 total as my Cuz had dropped us off a plant a little while back. He gave us a cherry tomato, which actually had 2 other plants, a nice bucket with basil, and a white eggplant.

We’ve never tried the white eggplant before so I’m looking forward to tasting one of those guys! The basil’s growing leaps and bounds, and we’ll be freezing some of this next week.

Breakfast Casserole, Poochie’s Biscuit Bean Bake, and Piled-On Porkchops:

Well, Christmas is right around the corner. To most this means large gatherings of family and friends, and this in itself means grub…and plenty of it!

Here at our gathering at Mom and Dad’s, we put on a pretty good feed bag as well. Over the last few years, Mom made the switch from Christmas lunch, to Christmas breakfast, and I’m here to tell ya, this has been one, big hit! The whole family has bought into this, whole-hog!

The main dish is a breakfast casserole, but she supplements the casserole with another dish or two as well. You know, so you don’t go home hungry. In regards to our Mama’s, we all know they don’t want you leavin the table and your belly ain’t full yet.

So as I said, my Mama might just throw a couple other things on the table to prevent such as that. Normally this is scrambled eggs, country ham, biscuits, red-eyed gravy, grits, sausage balls, mounds of bacon, sausage gravy too, sliced tomatoes, and a heaping bowl of fruit salad.

We get enough…but just barely. If we keep it down to 3-4 plates per person, it kinda stretches it out some. LOL!

A Christmas Cake, Hot Damn Punch, and High Dollar Mountain Margarita’s!!

We’ll be putting up today a few of our more “unusual recipes…”

First off, it’s the time of the year for family gatherins, and many just might like “to partake” in a little nip from time to time. Now myself, I usually don’t do this at’tall unless it’s a “special occasion,” like for example…the sun comes up, OR if it goes down! LOL!

The first recipe today comes from a reader, Texas Gal. She sent us this via e-mail, and we sure appreciate her doing so! I’m thinkin pretty hard about goin on and mixin one of these baby’s up just as soon as we finish up here this morning! LOL, and thanks for the laugh Texas Gal!!

Our last two drink recipes come from the cookbook, “White Trash Gatherings,” and was written by, Kendra Bailey Morris. It was published by, Ten Speed Press. It’s a hoot to read, and has many tips, and some good “down home” cookin! Check it out.

A Shout Out to a Few Friends:

Good morning once again. Isn’t life great? There’s a lot to be said for the old saying, “Stop and smell the roses.”

We all get so caught up in our lives that too many times we don’t heed that statement, just to… “stop and smell the roses.”

Deb and I both used to be terrible about staying in a run all the time. In our early lives together, we were trying to build a small business, keep the kids something to eat on the table, and in general, life was pretty chaotic! I’m sure you all can relate to these things.

Well, on account of Judi and Brian at the Canada Free Press, we started this column. We found it hard to believe that ANYONE might want to hear what Deb and I had to say about anything, but they inspired us to start this little endeavor, Ridin Out the Recession…in Miz Judi’s Kitchen.

“Sticker Shock…II”

Good morning guys. Thanks for stopping back by. We hope all are well, and life is good!

The last time we talked, we were discussing the downturn of our economy, and the steps Deb and I decided to take on this account. We told of our oldest son Josh, and his family, and how their income had decreased from slowdown of their workplace along with Shelly having Gavin and being home with him.

But, by those guys having the foresight to recognize the slowdown of our economy, they started putting up some food storage. Because of this, today, even with a good bit of their income lost for the time being, they’re eating, and eating well.

By not doing as they did, at this time they’d be experiencing a “double-whammy.” This being less money available to them to buy groceries, then once reaching the stores…they’d be paying more for what they needed, plus receiving less because of the price increase. So, those two have weathered pretty well.

So you see guys, our game plan within our family is basically to prepare for the worst, but the whole while hoping for the best. Once more, what food storage we’ve put away, we couldn’t come close to replacing with today’s pricing, AND, I don’t see this changing. AND, the worst case scenario simply being…we’ll eat it anyway!

You only have to look quickly at the events unfolding in our Country, and for that matter worldwide, to understand that “we the people,” could get hung up between a rock and a hard spot fairly easily…from a number of different scenarios.

Christmas Lace Cookies, Peach Pie, Apple-Cherry Pie, and Pastry for Double-Crust Pies:

Hello, and welcome back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen. We’d like to thank you all for droppin back in to visit with us again! You guys are great!

Can you believe that Christmas is almost here once again? Good Lord…where does the time go? Quickly, and you’ll probably be told this by us a few more times prior to…Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year as well.

Boy, don’t you know that there’s a ton of kids who’ll be finding getting to sleep mighty hard just here directly. I remember myself as a child, and man, oh man, was Christmas Eve the longest night of the year by far! I could hardly get to sleep wonderin what ole Santa Claus might be droppin off at our place.

I remember one Christmas that my Dad put a dern cow patty (manure) in my stocking. I got up, reached up inside the dern thing, and there it was, just as pretty as you please. Dad asked, “What’d ya get son?”

I replied that Santa had evidently brought me a cow… but the dern thing done got up and run off! It always was pretty hard to catch me at a loss for words! LOL!

Anyone Besides Us Getting… “Sticker Shock?…Part 1”

Good morning my friends, and welcome back once more to Ridin Out the Recession. Thank you again for droppin back in to visit with us today!

I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I went to the grocery store for Deb last week and dad-gum, things sure are going up in price! I literally was astounded!

Whole chickens…anywhere from 9 to 11 bucks. I couldn’t even imagine this! Carnation canned milk…$1.85 PER can! I was like…WHOA!

These are exactly the reasons we started our food storage…availability, inflation, and concern over our own ability to purchase food, IF our business continued to experience such a dramatic slowdown, like we experienced in 08.

REVOLUTION…..DECEMBER 7th 2011

“A MAJOR SOURCE OF OBJECTION TO A FREE ECONOMY IS PRECISELY THAT A GROUP THINKS THEY OUGHT TO WANT…….UNDERLINING MOST ARGUMENTS TO A FREE MARKET, IS A LACK OF BELIEF IN FREEDOM ITSELF” ……..Milton Friedman

SEVENTY YEARS AGO, ON A SUNDAY MORNING, JAPAN UNLEASHED A SURPRISE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR CONDUCTED BY THE IMPERIAL JAPANESE NAVY……the attack was intended as a preventive action to keep the U.S. Fleet from interfering with the military actions the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia, against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and the United States. The base was attacked by 353 Japanese fighters, bombers and torpedo planes in two waves, launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. battleships were damaged, with four being sunk. All but two of the eight were raised, repaired and returned to service later in the war. The Japanese also sank or damaged three cruisers, three destroyers, an anti-aircraft training ship, and one minelayer. 188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 American were killed, and 1,282 wounded.
