Drunken Weenies, Remy and Max’s Dried Apple Snacks, Big Butt Bea’s White Trash Nachos, Devils Delight, and Curtain Rods

Good morning friends…how are you guys today? We sure hope everyone’s having a super weekend and this finds you all in good health. If you guys aren’t quite feelin “up to snuff,” then shoot, this dern “Drunken Weenie” recipe might be just the ticket! LOL!

You know, ole Deb and I kinda like piddlin around a cook stove ever once in a while, and we do pick-up, or somebody will send us a cookbook. Actually in today’s cookbooks, many times you can also read up on the “back in the day” lifestyles, and some are very entertaining, and good reads to boot. We enjoy them.

Anyway, we’ve shared some other recipes from the cookbook we’ll be using today, and it falls into the funny, “back in the day” category. But it also has some very good, “down home cookin” recipes as well.

Its title once again is, White Trash Gatherings,” and was written by Kendra Bailey Morris. It was published by Ten Speed Press.

I’d come back in this morning after a couple cups of coffee, sat down in my easy chair and picked up this book once again. Yep, you guessed it, ole Deb was still sleepin…how else could I have possibly sat down in my easy chair? Once Deb gets up, there ain’t much takin it easy after that!

The Dern Thing’s Coming Along Nicely

Well, hello again! How’s everybody doin? We hope all you guys are fine and it’s the weekend, huh? Here on this place, most times I couldn’t tell you what day of the week it is. Around ole Deb…they’re ALL work days!

Well, the greenhouse and grow area are really beginning to take shape. I got everything hoed, fertilized, and really, it’s startin to look pretty good. I guess it does anyway. Deb hasn’t complained about anything yet, so that’s always a good thing, and a pretty good gauge that you’re sittin alright in her book.

Poor ole thing. She doesn’t like to offend anyone, her bein so shy and all! LOL! That woman ain’t much bigger than a full grown skeeter, but she’ll get on me like white on rice! Whoever said that dynamite comes in small packages nailed it when it comes to her!

She reminds me of a dern ant. You guys ever watched one? Those little things CAN WORK! Then to sit back and see what they can tote, is amazing! She’s the very same. If that woman weighed 150 pounds, I swear she could take over the world if she set her mind to it. I thank the Good Lord fairly often that he made her no bigger than he did.

Anyway, you guys don’t want to hear about my troubles, do you? LOL!

Your “Castle” Defense II

Good morning guys. We hope this finds all well today, and thank you for stopping back by to visit with us!

Yesterday, I did a post on defending your home. One of our friends sent in a comment in regards to the article. I thought I’d share this with you today.

Gerry, is a good friend of ours, and he lives in Western Canada. He’s a great guy, and Deb and I love him to death.

Anyway, after reading Gerry’s comment, I felt I may have not clearly identified the true intent of this particular post. With that the case, I felt like I might want to do a follow-up this morning and try to clear up a little my true intention for the post yesterday.

Here’s Gerry’s comment…

Your Home IS Your Castle…PROTECT IT!

Good morning guys! We hope today finds you and yours in great shape and spirits. Isn’t it wonderful that the good Lord sees fit to bless us with another day! I tell you guys what, he sure smiles on our family!

Well, let’s change gears today somewhat. Let’s talk about protecting your home. I know, I know, this subject sparks many debates Nationwide, but I have to tell you, the liberal mindset of gun control and the arguments they present, just don’t seem to make much sense to Deb and I.

First off, if there ARE armed intruders in your home, then dialing 911 just doesn’t seem to comfort us in the least. Yes, 911 does have its place, BUT, it DOES NOT protect YOU, or YOUR family IF your home has been chosen as a mark by the criminal element.

Let’s get real here for just a second. If an armed intruder, or intruders enter your home, at night (daytime as well), one thing is completely obvious…they’re not stopping by to say hello, how are ya! If they have the balls (sorry, but nothing else seemed appropriate), to come forcibly into your home to rob you or worse, you can bet your bottom dollar they REALLY don’t want to leave any witnesses, right? You betcha I’m right!

So, with this in mind, AND intruders are already in your home, then simply dialing 911 doesn’t seem like the appropriate action to take. Again, it has its good side, and many of them as a matter of fact, but it doesn’t provide protection for you and your family at THAT moment. Your response, and your actions, both are in your hands…RIGHT THEN.

REVOLUTION……APRIL 7th, 2012

Well, here’s our good buddy AP. Once again, AP is 92 years young! He’s a WWII vet, a successful business man, a lover of our great Country, and he writes this column, “The Revolution,” pretty much weekly.

His reasoning for doing so is simply trying to educate as many as he can in the goings on of our elected officials today.

It is an election year my friends, and it’s a very, very important election. Vote with your heart, and help us to restore our Country back to the greatness it deserves! God Bless us all!

THE ARROGANCE OF POWER …….Senator Robert C. Byrd

“I believe in this great and beautiful country. I have studied its roots. I have gloried in the wisdom of its magnificent Constitution, and its inimitable history. I have marveled at the wisdom of its founders and its framers. Generation after generation of Americans has understood the lofty ideals that underline our great Republic. I have been inspired by the story of their sacrifice and their strength.

But today, I weep for my country. I have watched the events of recent months with a heavy heart. No more is the image of America one of strong, yet benevolent peacekeeper. The image of America has changed. Around the globe, our friend’s mistrust us, our word is disputed, our intentions questioned.

RESURRECTION

Deb and I received this just a little while ago. It comes from our good friend Bonnie, in North Carolina. Bonnie you may remember contributed much of her knowledge of gardening, canning, and always shared her love for our Lord and Savior with Deb and I.

Bonnie, whom I’m sad to say, we don’t communicate with like we should, mostly on our part, but Bonnie also has a very busy schedule. She’s politically active, volunteers at different spots helping out, continues to garden, and keep groceries on the table for her and her husband Steve.

She’s a wonderful, caring person who has always had a special place in our hearts. Deb and I would like to say how much we appreciate her, and also to thank her for this wonderful poem, actually two, she shared with us this Easter morning.

Bonnie, you’re the best, and thanks again for thinking of us! We love you guys.

This first poem was opened in our e-mail…

Miss Moxley’s Buttermilk Fried Chicken With Torpedo Gravy, Reba May’s Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Angel Biscuits, Reba May’s Next-Day Fried Tater Cakes, and Man…it’d been dry!

Good morning, good morning. Man, I got up bout 5:15, fixed a cup of coffee, went out on the porch…and it was RAININ! Not a shower mind you, but a full fledge rain! Good night, we were needing, it!

It had gotten SO dry down here…the trees were bribing the dogs!

It had been SO hot and dry, the birds were pullin worms outta the ground…usin potholders!

I was tellin Deb that it had been SO dry, I saw our neighbor Skeet feedin his chickens crushed ice to keep em from layin hard-boiled eggs.

Her response, “If Skeet’s brains were made of gasoline, he wouldn’t have enough to ride a motor scooter around the inside of a doughnut.” I left fore she could start on me!

Anyway, tonight we’re supposed to have another couple good batches, and we’re sure needing all we can get.

A Check on the Greenhouse and Grow Area

Well, hello there! How are you guys this morning? Shoot, I’m finer’n frog’s hair, and can’t wait for tomorrow! This greenhouse thing we’re gonna love! It’s really beginning to come together for us now.

We’ve gotten about three quarters of the grow area planted. Well, two thirds anyway. I believe I counted 101 tomato plants today, in the ground. There are seven different varieties in the ground, and two more hardening off to be planted.

We then have three different black tomatoes up, that are still in seed trays. Those are the Southern Nights, the Carbons, and the Sarah Black. Deb and I have never eaten a black tomato before, so we’re really looking forward to tryin those babies out!

By the time with finish settin out tomato plants, we’ll have in the neighborhood of around 170 in the grow area. Plus probably 35-40 will be in the greenhouse.

Deb’s convinced she’ll be able to sell the heck out of em, so…we’ll see, huh? I do know she’s having a good time with this so far, AND I haven’t killed anymore plants! There is something to that hardening your plants off after all!
