It Doesn’t Take Brains…to be a boss

Good morning to you all this morning and thanks for dropping in! We hope all are well and you have had a great Fourth of July…God Bless America!

I know I say this frequently, but Deb and I both feel it necessary. Thank you all for your support and prayers in regards to Deb’s condition.

She’s really done well with her first chemo, although towards the end of last week she experienced several days of “feeling nauseated, and confused.” You could tell it had hampered her pretty good, and this was 8-10 days after her treatment.

She’s always up, and moving, but for those couple days it kinda’ “jumped on her,” pretty good. But, she’s up and running hard again now!

She had a bad experience with her nausea pill, and they called and swapped the prescription. She took this one and says she’ll stay with the original, if needed, until we see the Doctor again. She hasn’t needed them again, so maybe this will be the case until we go back to Orlando…

Matter of fact we just got back from Orlando…she just picked up her two wigs. I’m telling you they look absolutely terrific! We were going to go Thursday or Friday, but she came upstairs this morning and had a little hair in her hands. She then told me it had started coming out, so I told her let’s go on and get them.

She had her hair cut short while we were there, but it looks good on her. She still doesn’t NEED the wig, but it’s just around the corner.

Anyway, we stopped and gassed up, and when we went inside to pick Deb up a drink, the lady behind the counter said, “I have to tell you honey, I love your hair, it looks great!” Well, I had to listen to that ALL the way home!

Actually though, I felt so good for her, and that was all she needed. She thinks she’s Raquel Welch now…God help me!

I ask you all to pray not only for Deb, and thank you all so much for doing so, but for all cancer patients. Since we started with Deb, we just had no idea the numbers of people this terrible disease is affecting! It is truly amazing, and we’re just seeing the numbers from ONE Dr.’s office in Orlando.

When you put this into a National or Worldwide perspective, it truly is an eye opener. Please say a few words in regards to all these poor people and their families, several of which are friends we’ve made through this site, and who have been so helpful to Deb and myself through sharing their experiences.

One very special lady, who literally has taken Deb under her wing, is Sandra, herself a cancer survivor who has been dealing with this since 1998. She calls, or Deb calls her from time, and she’s literally a “Godsend” for Deb.

She’s been so helpful with advice, or the do’s and don’ts, if you may, but we both believe God put her in our lives, and for your help Sandra, we’ll always be indebted to you. Please include Sandra in your prayers.

These past statements have been in no way “belittling” towards all our other friends out there that have put Deb in your prayers! We love and appreciate every one of you! Without your love and support, we’re not sure how we would have handled this situation! God Bless you all!

In regards to this disease, as you know, we share some videos from time to time. Well, with ole’ Dub here being a technological dinosaur, that’s being kind to myself, Deb just normally refers to me in this field as simply a dumb a.., I needed help in figuring out how to load and share these dern things.

Well the first thing I found out is I can’t load them from our home, because we have to have a dish, through Wild Blue, who provides our internet service for us. With this being the case, Red our son, has to take them to his house to load them for us…

Anyway, you have to load them through You Tube evidently, in order to share them, which means you have a You Tube account. I’m sure most, well yes anybody knows that! But I’m here to tell you , I had no idea until we started doing this…Anyway…

Well, through You Tube we get comments and replies, and we’ve met some good people through You Tube as well. One of which is Ken who lives in Texas.

We started communicating a little, and the last video, which I’ll share with you guys today, I mentioned that Deb has stage 4 breast cancer. Ken e-mailed me back and said his wife had just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer as well, since the end of April. This astonished me as Deb was informed her cancer was stage 4 on April 28.

So, if you guys would, please put Ken’s wife Trisha, in your prayers, as I know they would be very appreciative of you doing so. They’re good people who love life, love to garden, love family and love our Lord and Savior.

I’ll put up one of Ken’s videos today for you as well. It’s showing how dry they’ve been in Texas. Thanks guys!
Back to today’s title, “It doesn’t take brains…to be a boss.”

I’ve got to tell you today that I never no how very true this statement was until the last three to four days!

Last Tuesday, I’d mentioned Deb and I had eaten some coleslaw from a restaurant that I believed we’d contracted a small dose of food poisoning from. Both ended up sick to our stomachs, runnin’ back and forth to bathroom, and just felt terrible for the next day or two.

Then we reversed it, or she did anyway.

I don’t know what happened, but after this, starting late Friday evening, I couldn’t use the bathroom. I went from one extreme to the other…to couldn’t go! FINALLY, Tuesday I did. I know you guys probably really don’t want to hear about this, but I’m tellin’ you…if you’ve never experienced it, it is terrible!

This is the reason for the gap in our columns this week. I thought somebody was gonna ‘have to knock me in the head just to make me feel better! Well, in reality, nobody did knock me in the head, although I’m sure poor ole Deb did consider it a time or two!

I heard a story many, many years ago, that I’m fixing to relay to you guys.

Back when human life began, there was just the body, and the body parts.

Well, the body parts were discussing which part of the body was to be the boss. The legs said, that since they enable the body to get around, they should be the boss.

The eyes declared, since we give sight, and without sight the legs aren’t a whole lot of good. The eyes keep the legs from stumbling around, and prevent tripping over something and falling down.

The brain then chimed in and goes, hey, you guys are very useful I agree wholeheartedly, BUT…in reality, I AM the control center here. Everything you guys would like to do runs through me. If the legs want to walk, or the eyes want to see, you send me a message. I then receive the message, and give the signal for you guys to start doing what you guys do. With this being the case, I should, and deserve to be…the boss!

Just about this time the a..hole applied for the job.

All the other body parts thought this absolutely hilarious, and began laughing uncontrollably… can’t stop uncontrollably! Well, the poor a..hole was embarrassed by this, and felt bad. But the other parts wouldn’t stop laughing about his applying for the job, and they kept ridiculing him for being, well what he was, and still applying for the job.

The little feller finally got mad, and closed up! After 2-3 days, the legs grew wobbly. This was followed by the eyes becoming crossed and unable to focus. This left the brain, and it fared no better. It soon became clouded, foggy, and confused, and by the end of another couple days, the other body parts conceded…and made the a..hole the boss.

So, the moral to this story being, if you haven’t already figured this out is simply…you don’t have to be a brain to be a boss, only an a..hole!

Now, my take on rethinking this again is…there’s no doubt in MY MIND after the last 3-4 days, what body part should be boss, I’m convinced!

I owe you guys one more White House Rural Council, but to be honest, just didn’t feel like it. I owe ya’ one!
You guys are great! God Bless you all!

As Deb likes to say, “Keep a smile on your face, and one in your heart!” Enjoy the videos!

Hey Dub and Deb, Thanks for the shout out. I sure enjoyed talking to you both the other day. You had some great ideas on things we can try and I appreciate it very much! I think we are going to try them. Sure can’t hurt things. I really enjoy this blog and your videos.
Deb sounds alot like my little bride. Tough as nails and a fighter! They both have to be in order to put up with us LOL!
Keeping you both in our prayers.

See you are rolling along in your Phase II program Dub&Deb. Good for you, just take it one step at a time. To all you newly diagnosed patients out there I share with you what I shared with D&D. Do the research on your particular disease and plan your options. Find the best Doctors and treatment centers available to you. If you have never considered your body as important as your car, might want to do that now. Learn how to take care of the body with nutrition and light excercise. There is a lot to
talk about when it comes to this disease. Find your mentors where you can, there are many out there and they will help you get through this. My thoughts are with you all as are my prayers.

Dub is correct when he tells the story of brain/boss. My father used to say when something is wrong with your pipes something bad is wrong with you. He always told me keep your pipes open and in good condition and you’ll be in great shape and he was right. During times of treatment make sure your pipes are taken into consideration. Know to some these words seen kind of strange but the ones going through this understand perfectly.

Prayers and thoughts to Deb and all you others out there going through the same thing. I must not forget the spouses that give so much during this time. Just hope you all have a Dr. as good as mine.

You have to be tough and hardheaded to get through this. And Deb is one of those.
Thinking of you D&D. The road will be rough at times but won’t be long that will be over and you can enter Phase III.
All riders on this board are in my prayers. Thank you for sharing with us D&D.
