Race…and His Go-Cart

You know, Dale brought his grandson Race, to the house with him the other day. That little guy is cute as a button and just keeps a little grin on his face. Race is 5 years old.

We’d met Race once before, but I really didn’t have time to visit with him on that occasion, so I’m glad Dale brought him back by to see us.

Race loves to hunt, fish, camp, and do just about any “boy thing” there is to do. He is the apple of Dale’s eye, and I gotta tell you, I believe little Race kinda thinks highly of his granddaddy Dale too!

Dale lives on a creek about a mile, probably not even that far from our house. This creek, Lake Marion Creek, runs from Lake Marion, into the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes. It’s about a 14 mile meander down the creek until it hits the Kissimmee Chain.

Well Dale spends many an hour on that creek, and Race is on the creek with his granddaddy every chance, he gets.

Dale has a little boat he uses, and picked up another small boat a while back, and this one…is Race’s. He has no qualm about telling you that his granddaddy has a boat and he does too.

I’ll say this about Race as well. He is a very, very polite little feller, but I’ll just bet ole Dale might let Race slide, every now and then.
I said he likes to camp. We have a “camp house” we built out in the woods behind our house. Race didn’t know about this.

While we were visiting the other day I asked Race if he liked to camp? He was sitting up on the gator, and answered me that he sure did. Well, I got to telling him about the “camp house” out back, and you could see this had perked his interest.

He got off the gator and come up right beside me to “discuss” this camp. I told him that he was indeed welcome to come down and use the camp with his granddaddy if Dale would bring him. That was all it took, he was sold on this idea.

So, Dale has promised him that yes, they will come down and camp some, and we’d be tickled to death if they would.

You see, this is how I grew up, and sadly kids today are losing this style of childhood. Heck, we lived in the woods, and if you wanted us to come home, well, you’d better yell long and hard. Shoot, we was neck deep in them woods.

This is why we’re so thrilled to share something like this with little Race. This little guy sadly, is like the last of a dying breed of children. He has the ability and has been brought up in many ways, well, like so many of us were in our own childhoods.

To me, this type of lifestyle is just so good for a child, but we’ll save this for another day.

I’m going to share with ya’ll a video of Race down here on his go-cart. He had been riding it on the old creek road, and it’s just a sand bog, and the little feller kept his little cart stuck.

Dale called Deb and asked if he could bring it down to the house so he could ride it in our drive, and she said sure…for $50.00 bucks! I got on her rear end about that deal, as I told her, “Deb, $25.00 would have been plenty!” LOL!

Anyway…here’s Race and his go-cart…
