Down time, down at the ranch

I would like to welcome you all back to Miz Judi’s Kitchen. I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy.

As you know Dub, and I went down to his parent’s ranch. We had great time, and got some much needed down time, and it was wonderful just to enjoy all of God’s great outdoors.

Well, I see Dub has done told a big whopper yesterday, about the old man and his bear! When I read it, I thought o.k., I’ll tell a little story on ole Dub.

It was like this… I’ve been walking about a mile, to a mile to a half, twice a day for about 3 weeks now, and Dub keeps telling me I’m going to start walking with you. But every day, in his defense, he keeps getting busy and can’t make the walk.

So, when we got to the ranch, there was no T.V., no internet, and mostly NO PHONE. He gets a ton of calls a day about business, whatever, so I thought this would be a good time for old Dub to start walking. I told him once we got to the ranch, that in the morning, we’re going to go for a walk. He looked at me real funny and said o.k…

We got up and were sitting on the porch drinking our juice, when I looked at him and said, you ready to go for our walk? He jumped right up, and said let’s go.

We took off across the pasture, and we measured what we walked that morning on the way out the gate. It was a little over 2 miles. Well that morning, ole Dub just keeps walking, and walking, with me following around behind him.

The reason so was we were off the grade, and the pastures are pretty uneven, so we were walking different cow trails, again him up front. I think it’s a man thing, what do you other ladies think?

There were so many different t things to see, and all you could hear was the birds singing, and no cars running, it was just so peaceful, and we were really enjoying it.

I kept thinking though, that you know, Dub hasn’t been walking much, I wonder if he might be overdoing it a little this morning? I mean he walks a lot during the day, but not a takeoff and go for a walk, walk. He’s outside a lot, and into just about everything at home anyway, but I thought, ok buster, you might feel this later on. But he just kept on going and talking, so I just tagged along behind.

When we got back to the house, we just kept talking about how nice the walk was, and how pretty the ranch was, you know.

That night after Dub got his bath, he could hardly walk. He told me, my butt cheeks is so sore, I can’t hardly move em! I just died laughing and told him, you’ll be alright after we walk again in the morning, and he just looked at me.

We got up the next morning and I could see he was having a hard time getting around in his “rear-end area,” so I asked him if he was ready to go for our walk? He looked at me like I was crazy, and not saying a word, he just jumped up, put his shoes on, and off we go.

We took the same path we had the day before, and I could see he was not walking as fast, but he kept on walking. We got to one fence line in the back, and he rested up on one of the posts and said to give me just a minute. Laughing on the inside, I told him sure Dub, take all the time you want. Then we started walking again, and when we get to the next fence line, he stopped and said, give me a minute.

I was laughing to myself again, because I could tell that man knows he wants to go back, but he wouldn’t say it in a million years, so at this point, this walking with ole Dub is beginning to get really entertaining to me! Actually…I was loving every minute of it!

I asked him if he wanted me to go and get the gator, then come back and pick you up? He looked at me and said that, NO, I DON’T WANT YOU TO GO GET NO DERN GATOR! You think that I want you telling everyone that you had to walk back and get the gator to pick me up, yea right!

Well we got our walk over with, and by this time I knew Dub was some kind of sore, but I’ll tell you one thing, he wouldn’t quit, or let me do it by myself, he stayed right with me….when he wasn’t leanin on a fence post! Huh Dub?

So yesterday afternoon his brother and his wife came down for dinner. Patty asked if we were going to go for a walk, and he told Patty… YOU can walk with her this afternoon if you want, but I ain’t, she’s about to kill me! We all just busted out laughing, my ole Dub is hilarious at times.

When Patty and I got back from our walk, Dub had cleaned the kitchen up for us! By him doing that, I guess he really didn’t want to take another walk!

I got news for him though, he’s going to start walking with me here at home, and he will. Once he starts something, it’s hard to get him to stop, so I know he’ll do it. He’ll do it for me if nothing else, but it’ll do him a world of good just for him too!

I do know that since I was diagnosed with my problem, that he has turned his eating habits way around, and myself included. He eats everything I eat, and is very supportive in this.

I must say too, that we did have a great time, and maybe after we talk to the Doctor tomorrow, and get a game plan going, we might just head back down there.

Right now the timing is such a plus for us because Mark is working about four miles from our house. With this being the case, he just stays at our house while we’re gone, and it saves him a lot of driving back and forth, if he was coming to and from his house to the jobsite.

We find out Monday what our next step will be, and then we start kicking butt on this disease I was diagnosed with, and go on with our lives from there.

Again I would like to thank each and every one of you for all your prayers, blessing, and all of your support and kind words, please keep them coming.

Remember…keep your check- up on time, and if you notice anything different, go get it checked out right away, do not wait.
Till next time, keep a smile on your face and one in your heart.

May God bless each and every one of you!

Deb

Sore Butt Cheeks! Why Ole Dub is kin to my Baby Boy. When he does more than average work he always says my butt cheeks are sore. I really believed he was the only one that said that, dumb me. You will be OK Deb. Just finish up phase one and
proceed to phase two. Which is recovery. You have been through the options and
phase two, recovery, is also plan, plan, plan. Lots of good people out here to help you along. Holding your hand and sending prayers yours way. In such a short time you guys have come a long way. A trip to the ranch was a positive thing and a great stress buster. Keep finding those little busters in the corners of your life. Thinking of your families too.
